015; [text/action for goldenrod pokécenter]

[there are a few unusual things about this here transmission: first, Sora's sending out a few text messages. they're... not exactly his first choice for communicating; he prefers being able to see someone's face when he's talking to them. that and he's painfully slow with hunting and pecking on a keyboard. he's got a good reason for going the text route today, though.]

Is everybody okay? I know all kinds of weird stuff's happened, and I want to make sure nobody's hurt.

[-- and unusual thing number two. though Sora is not much of a typist, he does at least try to make his texts grammatically correct. oh screw it, typing with one hand is annoying.]

let me know soon. also if you guys have any empty bottles hang on to them. or give them to me and i'll hold them for you. ive got an idea

if you find my stuff please be careful with dartanian_

[shortly after mashing the "send" button, Sora tosses his 'gear in front of him on the bed and sighs. tries to sigh. Bell waddles over to to where the 'gear hit the covers and turns it over and over with her tiny arm stubs, prii'ing happily to herself. feel free to make a video call, though you may be chatting with a Togepi at first.]

[if you happen to enter the pokécenter in Goldenrod, you might hear Sora arguing feebly with a nurse and basically being the worst patient ever.]

[don't worry big sis; he's got all the time in the world.]

[ she's still new to this whole bedtime story thing, but dammit she'll try. ]

Once upon a time, there was a... a sorceress, who sought to envelop a peaceful land with fog. But this wasn't ordinary fog. This fog confused people, made it impossible to view the truth. And the people, while alarmed at first, began to fall under its sway. It was okay to believe in lies. No one could judge them if they didn't know the truth, and they were happier not knowing it.

[identity profile] newhero.livejournal.com 2010-12-03 09:21 am (UTC)(link)
[he shifts a little as he listens, drawing his blankets up over his legs-- stories about magic and heroes are his favorite kinds of stories; this one's already off to a great start! and, just like when his mom told him stories when he was very little, he pretty much asks questions whenever he gets a chance.]

So the fog kind of made people lie, then?

[action]

[identity profile] restardom.livejournal.com 2010-12-03 09:31 am (UTC)(link)
[ Rise grins at that; oh boy, audience interaction! ]

Yeah, sort of. It messed with their minds, made kids sick... and if no one did anything, it would just keep getting worse.

[identity profile] newhero.livejournal.com 2010-12-03 09:37 am (UTC)(link)
How do you even fight something like that?

[action]

[identity profile] restardom.livejournal.com 2010-12-03 09:45 am (UTC)(link)
You fight your way to the source.

[action]

[identity profile] newhero.livejournal.com 2010-12-04 05:26 am (UTC)(link)
Ohh... So you'd have to fight the source...eress?

[... cough snort oh god Sora's going to kill himself at this rate.]

[action]

[identity profile] restardom.livejournal.com 2010-12-04 05:28 am (UTC)(link)
... [ and she just gives him a YOUNG MAAAAN look. ]

[action]

[identity profile] newhero.livejournal.com 2010-12-04 05:40 am (UTC)(link)
[but it was such a good one... all right all right, Sora smiles apologetically. this is Rise's story; he'll listen quietly! unless he has a question-- he's likely going to have questions.]

[action]

[identity profile] restardom.livejournal.com 2010-12-04 06:04 am (UTC)(link)
[ she smiles back at him, dork that he is. ]

But there was someone who was willing to fight through the fog and the monsters the sorceress set loose to lurk in it. He was a-- a prince, and his name was Prince [ ... Bowlcut? Science Project Eater? ] ... Silver. He was a strong fighter and he could summon all sorts of creatures to help him in his battles. He also gained seven knights-- people who'd had to face their own trials in order to be able to fight by his side.

[action]

[identity profile] newhero.livejournal.com 2010-12-04 06:37 am (UTC)(link)
[oh, this is pinging his love for stories about knights and fighting evil big time.]

Cool! Kind of like the knights of the round table!

Re: [action]

[identity profile] restardom.livejournal.com 2010-12-04 06:40 am (UTC)(link)
[ ... this one knows nothing about Camelot, because what is being a good student in Japan. ]

Ahaha, kind of! Even with those trials taken care of, though, they still had a lot of fighting to do to reach the sorceress. She sent a lot of monsters and her very own magician after them and they were dragged into a different world to fight there.

[action]

[identity profile] newhero.livejournal.com 2010-12-04 06:53 am (UTC)(link)
[Sora can relate to both Rise and the story-- if it's math related, you can bet that he was ignoring it in favor of doodling on the sides of his paper.]

Mm... What kind of world was it?

[action]

[identity profile] restardom.livejournal.com 2010-12-04 07:03 am (UTC)(link)
It was... [ Rise frowns a little, almost as though she's reminiscing. ] It was really beautiful once. But the fog had made it a very dangerous and twisted place. When you entered for the first time, parts of the world became like something out of a personal nightmare. And the monsters attacked you, wherever you went.

[action]

[identity profile] newhero.livejournal.com 2010-12-04 07:42 am (UTC)(link)
[he catches that frown, though he's not really sure he understands the implications behind it. Sora does get the feeling, as he sits here quietly and listens, that maybe this story-- or at least the place she's describing-- is more significant than just a story, or a setting.]

[so Sora sits up a little, and leans closer to Rise, waiting for her to continue.]

[action]

[identity profile] restardom.livejournal.com 2010-12-04 07:54 am (UTC)(link)
[ he's on the right track, though she's certainly embellishing bits of it. She can't really go "I was involved in a serial killing mystery that got all of us fighting Shadows in a world accessible through a TV screen and in the end we had to fight this rotting goddess thing who wanted to shroud the world in fog and basically mess up all humanity", after all. ]

The Prince and his knights kept fighting-- days, weeks, months. The enemies only got more dangerous and the traps got even more sneaky. Twice they thought they'd solved everything, but the sorceress was only toying with them. But finally-- they'd defeated everything she'd thrown at them. And they came for her.

[action]

[identity profile] newhero.livejournal.com 2010-12-04 05:40 pm (UTC)(link)
[Sora'd buy it! if there's an entire world in a storybook, then it stands to reason that there could be a world inside the television, too. he'd just have a lot of questions-- like, what happens when you change the channel?]

Wow, they must have been exhausted... [he's hoping this sorceress doesn't pull the trick the one sorceress he knows did-- i.e. turn into a giant dragon.]

[action]

[identity profile] restardom.livejournal.com 2010-12-04 05:53 pm (UTC)(link)
[ Thankfully, they never had that problem. ]

They were, but they'd come too far to give up now, and they came at her with everything they had.

[ taking on a goddess hadn't been the wisest of ideas, in retrospect, but they'd wanted to give humanity the right to decide their future for themselves. ]

It was a long battle, and at times it would seem like they weren't hurting her at all. But Prince Silver had a magical orb that would reveal her true form. Of course, it wouldn't make her any weaker, but at least they'd be able to fight back.

And when he used it, the sorceress changed. No longer beautiful, she'd become a gigantic, corpse-like monster. Worse, she was much stronger in this form and she took down every single knight who sacrificed themselves in order to keep the prince safe. He was the only one left fighting.

[ ... well, at least she hadn't been a dragon. ]

[action]

[identity profile] newhero.livejournal.com 2010-12-04 06:01 pm (UTC)(link)
[... no, no, that's even worse than a dragon. Sora's expression twists to horrified, now-- but, but, the prince and the knights fought together! and they were probably all good friends and they all can't really be dead can they and that's not very Disney at all his brain can't process losing seven of his closest friends at once like that, because he at least knows Destiny Islands will be restored some day, but all those knights nooooooo--]

[action]

[identity profile] restardom.livejournal.com 2010-12-04 06:06 pm (UTC)(link)
[ Rise smiles softly, though there's really no trace of happiness in the gesture. She'd been forced to watch all of her friends die, after all. One by one, all protecting Souji, and as support... she hadn't been able to do anything. And Souji, too-- still, she reaches out to place a hand on top of Sora's. ]

The story isn't over yet, Sora.

[action]

[identity profile] newhero.livejournal.com 2010-12-04 06:29 pm (UTC)(link)
[... he smiles back, though his is a relieved one. he'll hang on to hope right until the very end-- Sora always has.]

What happened next?

[action]

[identity profile] restardom.livejournal.com 2010-12-04 06:35 pm (UTC)(link)
The prince fought as hard as he could, but even he fell. It seemed like the end had finally come. The sorceress had won.

... But she'd forgotten something. Through all the fighting and the time that'd passed, the prince and his knights had an unbreakable bond. Through the power of the bonds he'd made with them, Prince Silver was able to return from the darkness and fight back with all the strength his friends were giving him. They were still with him, and through him, they defeated the sorceress once and for all and restored the world to normal. The fog had been lifted.

[action]

[identity profile] newhero.livejournal.com 2010-12-04 06:56 pm (UTC)(link)
[an ending where the good guy defeats the ultimate evil through the power of friendship? that's... exactly Sora's kind of ending. but he just has to absolutely make sure-- even if Rise is just telling him a story, he still doesn't like the idea of anybody not being able to come back.]

And... everybody was okay, right?

[action]

[identity profile] restardom.livejournal.com 2010-12-04 06:59 pm (UTC)(link)
... Yeah. [ she gives him a reassuring nod. ] In the end, the prince was reunited with his knights, and they all lived happily after.

[action]

[identity profile] newhero.livejournal.com 2010-12-04 07:01 pm (UTC)(link)
... That was a really good story. Where'd you first hear it?
