[there are a few unusual things about this here transmission: first, Sora's sending out a few text messages. they're... not exactly his first choice for communicating; he prefers being able to see someone's face when he's talking to them. that and he's painfully slow with hunting and pecking on a keyboard. he's got a good reason for going the text route today, though.]

Is everybody okay? I know all kinds of weird stuff's happened, and I want to make sure nobody's hurt.

[-- and unusual thing number two. though Sora is not much of a typist, he does at least try to make his texts grammatically correct. oh screw it, typing with one hand is annoying.]

let me know soon. also if you guys have any empty bottles hang on to them. or give them to me and i'll hold them for you. ive got an idea

[shortly after mashing the "send" button, Sora tosses his 'gear in front of him on the bed and sighs. tries to sigh. Bell waddles over to to where the 'gear hit the covers and turns it over and over with her tiny arm stubs, prii'ing happily to herself. feel free to make a video call, though you may be chatting with a Togepi at first.]

[if you happen to enter the pokécenter in Goldenrod, you might hear Sora arguing feebly with a nurse and basically being the worst patient ever.]

Wow... I hope I get to meet them one day!

[ ... oh Sora, if only you knew. ]

Well, you never know. That might happen.

I'm gonna count on it!

-- Oh! I've got a story for you, too. Well... Do you want to hear a story about pirates or another story about knights?

That's a toughie. Ummm...

[ and she's actually giving this some thought. ] Well, we might as well make this a knight... night.

[Sora falls silent here, thinking. he had plenty of stories his mom used to tell them, and he loved them, but they weren't hardly as hardcore as a group of knights and a prince fighting a goddess. well... maybe he could string together and embellish parts of his own story!]

Once upon a time, there was this knight... And he lived in a beautiful kingdom, which was ruled by a king and his only daughter, the knight's friend. And the both of them were friends with an older and much more experienced knight. He was the kind of guy that everybody looked up to and counted on if there was danger.

But one day, the kingdom was attacked by an army from an evil kingdom, but for whatever reason, the older knight wasn't anywhere to be found. The kingdom fell to the army, and the three friends were separated and scattered across the world.

[ Rise's listening intently, though she probably won't ask as many questions as Sora did. She does, however, add in her thoughts. ]

S-seriously? That's awful, getting thrown that far apart!

Yeah, it was! The younger knight was able to band together with some warriors from a different peaceful kingdom, and together they scoured the world looking for the older knight and the princess, who'd been missing ever since their own kingdom first fell.

Together, the younger knight and his new friends visited all kinds of different kingdoms, and each kingdom had all different kinds of crazy powers! In one kingdom, you could change size and walk on the walls, another kingdom was buried underneath a lake so you had to use a special type of magic to visit it.

But the best kingdom was the one where you could fly-- and as the knight flew around, he thought a lot about the friends he was missing, and couldn't wait to tell them stories about all the crazy things he saw and the people he met along the way.

[ she's listening quietly, nodding every now and then and definitely intrigued by the thought of changing sizes or flying. ]

It sounds like he had a lot of fun!

Yeah, he did! And-- oh, and there was this other kingdom where they, uh... they celebrated Halloween every day. So everybody was always in costume, and the knight had to get a costume too so he could blend in with the locals. And there were exploding pumpkins. That w-- kingdom was one of the knight's favorites.

And then after--

[and then Sora's getting a little ahead of himself, not sure if he should tell the rest of the story the way he knows it. he's... not really sure if he could come up with an alternate ending on the fly.]

... And then after that, the knight and his friends wound up in a kingdom that had already been taken down by the evil army.

... It must've been pretty bad, huh?

... Yeah. It was. Nobody even lived there anymore; it was just overrun by the monsters controlled by the evil kingdom.

And... to make matters worse, both the older knight and the princess were there. But the older knight had been possessed by... the ruler of the evil kingdom, I guess. And the princess was in a deep sleep, and she wouldn't wake up.

Like "Sleeping Beauty" sleep? Gee... that poor princess. And that knight, too.

[ bleeding heart, this one. ]

I don't really know much about Sleeping Beauty...

[he scratches his head, frowning, and just... well. he improvises in fights all the time, but telling stories? not so much. no where to go but the truth-- and Sora'd been wanting to tell Rise about this anyway.]

But, uh... [and Sora pauses for a minute or so here, wracking his brain for a way to put this.]

The princess had lost something really important back when their kingdom was overrun. Something that makes everybody who they are. But she had hidden it somewhere safe. And right before they fought, the older knight told the younger knight that she had hidden it within him.

The younger knight wound up winning that fight, but he had an important decision to make. He could chase after the older knight, or he could give the princess back what belonged to her. He chose to help the princess, but in order to do that he had to release that part of her that was sleeping within him. So he had to... sacrifice himself, I guess is a good way to put it.

[ there's something about this that's striking her as... slightly familiar, but Rise doesn't remark on it. Instead, she presses her lips together as she listens, as if she's considering her words very carefully. ]

... What happened to him after that, Sora?

["well, funny story, actually. he woke up in this weird town and there was this lady who kept claiming to be his mom, and then there was this giraffe and then later he met an idol with pigtails--"]

[Sora's silent for another few minutes, carefully considering his words... except he's just drawing a blank.]

Actually... I don't know.

[ and there's that feeling again. ]

"To be continued", huh?

Yeah.

[and, after a beat-- though it's probably odd that Sora's trying to be reassuring for what is just a story, right?]

Oh, but don't worry though, Rise! I know the knight wouldn't just leave his friends behind like that.

... Yeah.

[ and after a pause ]

I know you wouldn't.

There, see? Nothing to worry about! I--

[-- Sora's storytelling needs some work, it seems. he just looks at Rise sort of like a Girafarig in headlights for a few minutes.]

[ Rise only smiles serenely like she knew all along, which is a total lie, but she's an actress for a reason. ]

[he smiles a little awkwardly in return, then just... kind of stares at his hands. Sora'd admit that he wasn't really sure where he was going with this when he was telling his story, but he hadn't expected Rise to catch on so quickly, either.]

... Mind if I join you? [ giving the bed a pat. ]
