010; [video/action for route 32 outside Union]

[video, glorious video. Sora's finally gotten his 'gear fixed after a week of texting and learning how to make smiley faces with symbols, and although he has to admit the smiley faces are pretty cool, he's much happier to be able to talk to the network face-to-face. sort of face-to-face. he's feeling a lot better, too.]

[so there's a very groggy kid opening up a feed today. it looks like he's just woken up from a fantastic nap, because he has some equally fantastic bedhead: the smaller spikes that usually go every which way are actually almost entirely flattened against his face on one side, and the bigger ones have sort of lost their vaguely coherent shape. it's quite a sight, really, and Sora doesn't seem to realize he has it.]

... Hey. Uh. I got a list of names from everybody who signed up to help with food for the festival from Nurse Joy. If you're still interested, the restaurants in your town would be happy to have you help! And if you were thinking about selling some kind of food from back home at a booth, they've all agreed to let you use their kitchens to make it. You just need to let them know in advance.

-- Oh yeah! Are any of you interested in running booths? If so, what kind?

[Sora pauses here, instinctively rubbing his eyes. as fantastic of a nap that was, he really hasn't been getting enough sleep out here on route 32.]

Ven? Where are you guys? We're just outside Union Cave. And--

[he turns away from the 'gear to address someone off screen. behold, spiky bedhead in all of its majesty!]

Riku! I've got something for you!

A pleasure to meet you, Sora. [And he tips his top hat.] Haha, and thank you. I am glad to see others appreciating it.

Alright then. Here is one I am rather fond of:

"You are outside a room with three switches. Each switch operates a lamp in the next room. You cannot see into the room at all, neither do you have anyone with you, or any tools. You need to find out which switch corresponds to which light and you can only use the switches while outside the room with the door closed. You may only enter the room once and can flip only two switches. How can you determine which switch operates which lamp in this situation?"

[30 picarats for this one!]

Do you know where I can get one? I know someone who'd really like to wear a hat like that!

[-- as for the riddle.]

Hmm... And I can only go in the room once?

[yeah, he might... be here boggling for a while.]
puzzling: (Hm...puzzles <3)

Hm, I have obtained my top hat before I arrived here, but perhaps you may find one around in the stores here. I have not seen any in Violet and Cherrygrove, so perhaps in Goldenrod?

[He nods.]

That is correct. Only once.

[he nods in response to Layton's suggestion, but he's mostly just lost in thought at this puzzle, brows furrowed.]

... ... ... Wait, don't tell me! I'm gonna get this.
puzzling: (Would you like some help ma'am?)

Haha, take your time, my boy.

[Just gonna wait patiently for Sora's answer. Lalala dadada dumdumdumdum~]

[video] /... actually has no idea fffff

[identity profile] newhero.livejournal.com 2010-10-30 02:56 am (UTC)(link)
[LAYTON IS GONNA BE HERE A WHILE, MAN-- Sora even pulls out his notebook and tries to draw it out; one can practically see the gears turning in his head. and then he gets an idea. light bulb! it's a crazy idea, but it could... work?]

Maybe if you... turn on the first switch and leave it on for a while. Then turn on the second switch, but don't leave it on as long. Then you can go in the room and test to see how hot the bulbs are? The hottest one would be the first switch, the second hottest would be the second, and the cold one would be the third.

[video] ahhh sorry about late reply

[See that growing smile right now? I think someone got the right answer!]

That is correct! There are multiple ways to solve this puzzle such as turning two switches on, but turning one off sooner than the other. However, the answer is same in the end.

[And 30 picarats for the young lad here! He's scribbling down the amount next to Sora's name now.]

Very well done, my boy. You have earned a nice amount of picarats as well on your first try.

[video] no worries!

[identity profile] newhero.livejournal.com 2010-11-02 11:44 pm (UTC)(link)
All right! Picarats! -- Wait, what's a picarat?
puzzling: (Would you like some help ma'am?)

[personal profile] puzzling 2010-11-03 01:29 am (UTC)(link)
Haha, a picarat is something to tell the difficulty of a puzzle. The easiest puzzles are 10 picarats, something around a medium level would be perhaps 30 picarats, and the hardest one would be 99. The numbers range from 10 to 99. I just use these for my own use to tell the difficulty.

I would then award these picarats to anyone who solves the puzzle. The number of picarats decreases when each answer given is wrong. I keep down a journal as to who many each person has. [Brings up his notebook in front of the camera before placing it back on his lap]

I am thinking about exchanging these picarats for some items in the future such as during the festival, but I am not sure as to what just yet...

[and Sora's got 30 already-- hot dog!]

That's a really good idea, sir! I was gonna stop by the mart once I get back to Violet, 'cause they agreed to give out a few donations. If you want, you can look through the stuff I pick up! Or I bet someone would help you bake some treats to give out as prizes, too.

[He chuckles.]

Just "Professor" is good by me, my boy. "Sir" is a little too formal with me.

And yes, that would be wonderful. I am in Violet City at the moment, so I will be more than willing to pick up the donations for you, or select a few of my own.
