[by now, Sora'd learned how to quell his frustration at the fact that, without fail, when one of his friends is in trouble or having trouble, he's too far away to do anything about it-- especially when he almost never had this problem back home... but another thing Sora's learned is, his friends here are more than capable of caring for themselves, and each other. still, slightly more relaxed that he is, he sends these texts out of worry. Lightning never struck him as the napping type, really.]

[that, and he probably needs to check up on Puddles, too.]

Are you guys doing okay? Nothing's changed? Rise, Puddles isn't giving you too much trouble, right?

[now, Sora had only meant to send those text messages early this morning, but Teddy, being the tech savvy little furball that he is, saw fit to grab the pokégear and snap a recording for Johto's Funniest Home Videos. Sora is seated on the ground somewhere in Ilex Forest, his head tilted waaaay back to look up at his beast of a Skarmory. a beast of a Skarmory with a squirming and squealing Caterpie wedged in her beak, and a Skarmory who is leaning down and giving Sora a fairly "YOU BETTER WISE UP AND LISTEN TO ME, YOUNG MAN," sort of look.]

[Metal Chocobo caws around the bug. Sora shakes his head fervently.] No.

[a muffled squawk that could probably rival her mother's. "but Trainer, it's breakfast time! and I caught you this delicious Caterpie! here comes the choochoo bird--"]

No! Look, I know I said I ate a few bugs as a kid, but I haven't in years! C'mon...

["SON, YOU ARE LUCKY I'M NOT EATING THIS THEN REGURGITATING IT ON YOU." Metal Chocobo looms closer, practically smashing the poor Caterpie against Sora's face-- and, like a stubborn and picky toddler, he clamps his mouth shut and tries to wedge his hands between his mouth and the bug.]

[unfortunately for Sora, Metal Chocobo has quite the height advantage. Sunday morning has turned into a battle of wits, kid against bird-- or at least, a battle of who's more stubborn.]

[... meanwhile, Metal Chocobo inches closer to Kairi and catches a bit of red hair in her beak. what, she's curious. human son is protective of human girl!]

[ she's keeping a hold of that Caterpie just in case the bird is trying again-- oh wait now it's her hair. ]

... Metal Chocobo... [the giant bird turns and squawks at Sora. what! I'm inspecting her for you. 8I]

... [ she'll stay still, then. She doesn't feel like getting her hair yanked. ]

[... hmm... clean clothes, no bugs in the hair (dangit), she seems nice enough... okay, Trainer! Metal Chocobo officially approves of your best friend-- that's probably why she's nudging Kairi back toward Sora and wandering off to find another Caterpie.]

... She... kind of reminds me of your mom. [ she's afraid to put this Caterpie down. ]

My mom? [Sora stares at Metal Chocobo as she pokes around for another bug-- it takes a few minutes, but he does see it. now that he thinks about it, he's vaguely reminded about how his mom used to try to get to get him to eat his vegetables.]

Y'know... she kinda is like my mom.

You're too big to be her chick, though.

That doesn't seem to be stopping her.

... At least it's a sure thing that she likes you!

Could you imagine what she'd do if she didn't like me? [Sora might be dead.]

[... Sora's flinching visibly at the thought.]

But she does like you!

As long as she doesn't turn on me, we're good!

Let's just try to keep her from feeding you any more bugs.

At least not Caterpies...

[ considering it's trying to burrow into her shirt. ]

If you can protect me from getting lifted like that again, I'll do my best!

That won't be happening again, promise. Otherwise Metal Chocobo is in huge trouble.

She was just worried about feeding you. I'm not mad.
