[by now, Sora'd learned how to quell his frustration at the fact that, without fail, when one of his friends is in trouble or having trouble, he's too far away to do anything about it-- especially when he almost never had this problem back home... but another thing Sora's learned is, his friends here are more than capable of caring for themselves, and each other. still, slightly more relaxed that he is, he sends these texts out of worry. Lightning never struck him as the napping type, really.]

[now, Sora had only meant to send those text messages early this morning, but Teddy, being the tech savvy little furball that he is, saw fit to grab the pokégear and snap a recording for Johto's Funniest Home Videos. Sora is seated on the ground somewhere in Ilex Forest, his head tilted waaaay back to look up at his beast of a Skarmory. a beast of a Skarmory with a squirming and squealing Caterpie wedged in her beak, and a Skarmory who is leaning down and giving Sora a fairly "YOU BETTER WISE UP AND LISTEN TO ME, YOUNG MAN," sort of look.]

[Metal Chocobo caws around the bug. Sora shakes his head fervently.] No.

[a muffled squawk that could probably rival her mother's. "but Trainer, it's breakfast time! and I caught you this delicious Caterpie! here comes the choochoo bird--"]

No! Look, I know I said I ate a few bugs as a kid, but I haven't in years! C'mon...

["SON, YOU ARE LUCKY I'M NOT EATING THIS THEN REGURGITATING IT ON YOU." Metal Chocobo looms closer, practically smashing the poor Caterpie against Sora's face-- and, like a stubborn and picky toddler, he clamps his mouth shut and tries to wedge his hands between his mouth and the bug.]

[unfortunately for Sora, Metal Chocobo has quite the height advantage. Sunday morning has turned into a battle of wits, kid against bird-- or at least, a battle of who's more stubborn.]

[ A few minutes later, after seeing the feed of Sora's predicament, he flicks on the video, looking...well, a mite more amused than he has in days. Welp, all judgement calls on nutritionary preferences aside... ]

You might want to let her know that what she's encouraging you to do is illegal.

[Sora'd... tried to punch out a response while being assaulted by Metal Chocobo and a Caterpie, but unfortunately neglected to spell check before hitting send. accidentally hitting send.]

[but then when Leon pops up on his screen later, he suddenly snaps to full attention. his face is pale. Metal Chocobo is preening his hair.]

I knew you're not supposed to eat them... but it's illegal?

[ Well, hmm. Leon looks pensive, thinking it over. He still seems pretty relaxed, which means he doesn't think it's anything that serious. He was mostly saying it to stop M.C. ]

Wouldn't eating pokemon count as intentionally harming it? [and the police have made it clear they don't tolerate that. ]

[Metal Chocobo squawks at Leon in argument, standing up to full height, spreading her wings and flapping. Sora's hair kind of floofs around with the gust of air. BUT MOMMA'S TRAINER, I'M TAKING CARE OF MY TRAINER!!]

[she bends down to take a tuft of hair in her beak and tugs at it lightly.] O-ow!

[SQUAAWWK. Y'see? his feathers haven't even hardened into steel yet! he needs protein and protein comes from bugs so I have to feed him bugs until he grows a respectable height!]

[ Leon arched a single brow, before glancing off-screen. He says something, which sounds suspiciously like "come talk to your daughter", before Skarmory appears, squawking. Oh sweetheart, you're making such a good effort! He's going to be big and tall like my trainer in no time!

(This was perhaps not the kind of discussion Leon was intending to happen.) ]

[Metal Chocobo wisely places a heavy wing on the top of Sora's head to keep him from scrambling away-- something he had been trying to do while Skarmory was busy squawking at her daughter. Momma, how did you get your trainer to eat his protein? does he like bugs? he's so tall...]

[ Skarmory nuzzles Leon's shoulder, looking proud. Oh, he was always this big, I hardly had to do a thing! Oh, but look--he knows a trick!

She croons gently and flips her head, exposing the soft underside of her neck. There's a moment of befuddled hesitation on Leon's part before he reaches over. Scritch scritch. SEE LOOK DAUGHTER, HE DOES IT ON COMMAND!

Leon still looks confused. He glances over at Sora. At least M.C. isn't trying to feed him a Caterpie anymore? ]

You gotta wonder what they're saying, sometimes...

Sometimes I feel like I can get the gist of what they're saying, but... [not today! Metal Chocobo meanwhile is puffing up in a giant bird's version of a pout. aw, Momma, my trainer's too short to do that! should I feed him more bugs? Ooh! I'll get him a Metapod! those will make him grow really tall, right?]

[ Leon shakes his head. ] I always try to figure it out by their tone. It's not always easy, though. I hear Cecil taught one of his to write.

[ Skarmory squawks out a laugh. The trick is brambles, silly! That's how the metal hardens! Why, I made sure to properly scratch your eggs every day so that you'd hatch nice and tough! ]

Seriously? I don't think I've met Cecil before-- I'll have to find him and ask him!

[SQUAAAWWWWK from Metal Chocobo-- brambles? WELL THEN, hang on a second, Momma, I'm going to pop off the screen and then attack my trainer with a plant I found nearby. poor Trainer didn't even see it coming, and is sent toppling right to the ground.]

Wha-- what are you doing?!
