016; [video/action for goldenrod-- backdated to early morning]

[around 4 or so this morning, Sora had been lying in his bed in the pokécenter, awake, not very comfortable, and bored out of his mind. not a whole lot was going on over the network, and Sora didn't want to wake Hope or Rise or Puddles or anybody else nearby. there were, however, two people he had no problem bothering: Riku got a smattering of text messages full of bad puns-- hey, he needed to practice them on someone! right? but shortly after he sent Kairi a text asking if she was awake, and where she was, a new message popped up on his pokégear screen:]

error: this number is no longer in use.

[... and that's when he silently swung his legs over the side of his bed and grabbed a few things-- including his pokémon asleep in their balls and his notebook-- and for the first time this entire week, Sora creeped out of his room and successfully snuck out of the Goldenrod Pokécenter.]

[first things first-- Sora lurched his way over to the closest vending machine and picked up two bottles of soda. he... made an honest effort to chug them, but wound up dumping the contents of the second bottle into a nearby sewer. it wasn't the soda he was interested in, anyway. next, he walked over to the radio tower-- he couldn't really see the ocean over the fence nearby, but he could hear it... seems no matter where you go, the ocean always sounds the same. he sat down, leaning against both the radio tower and a newly hatched Dratini for support, and began writing.]

Dear Kairi,

I'm sorry that I didn't get a chance to talk to you about this before you left. I hope this gets to you in time, or that you know it already, but there's something really important you need to keep in mind. I am ALWAYS
[--and he's underlined this word several times. even drawn a box around it.] there for you. You know that, right? Even if I try to act all tough about it, you're my best friend. You and Riku mean everything to me.

Your heart is the most important thing you have. It's what makes you who you are, and it's how we stay connected, even if we're worlds apart. If you ever feel like you or your heart are in danger, come find me. I swear I'll do everything I can to protect you. If it hasn't happened already when you get this, then... something's going to happen to the islands. And when it does, I want you to come look for me, OK? I'll be looking for you.

I get the feeling you already know this, though. I miss you. And I'll see you soon.

Sora

[when the video feed clicks on later that morning, the sun's out in full force by the radio tower. the sound cuts in right in the middle of Sora saying something.]

--tini, could you throw this in the ocean for me?

[the Dratini nods, and wraps its tail around the neck of a bottle with a note carefully rolled up inside. with a grunt, it chucks the bottle right over the fence, and both Sora and Pokémon watch as it soars, then plunks right in the ocean. please don't berate them for littering.]

Thanks. I-- [and Sora turns, noticing Bell pointing his gear at him and recording. he still hasn't actually been out and about Goldenrod wearing something other than his pajamas, but he at least thought to put on some shoes and a jacket this time. he steps a little closer, looking down at the 'gear and Bell-- he's smiling genuinely, but there's definitely a tinge of sadness somewhere in there.]

Morning, you guys! I kind of have an odd question. Have you ever been on a date before? I think we're going to set Puddles up with Whitney's Girafarig today.

[identity profile] newhero.livejournal.com 2010-12-06 11:52 pm (UTC)(link)
[there's a Ragnarok Online dungeon instance along those lines.]

It's nice to meet you, too! My name's Sora-- wow, I bet you fought all kinds of bad guys bad home, huh?

[identity profile] uses-metaphors.livejournal.com 2010-12-07 12:10 am (UTC)(link)
[Raven's mun is not surprised; it is the beginning of the Twilight of the Gods, after all.]

Sora, a pleasure.

[He laughs a little at the youngster's innocence.]

Bad and good is a matter of perception. The world back home will claim I died a villain, and they would be right, to a certain degree.

[identity profile] newhero.livejournal.com 2010-12-07 12:46 am (UTC)(link)
Huh? But you don't seem like a bad guy at all! Why would they think you're a villain?

[identity profile] uses-metaphors.livejournal.com 2010-12-07 01:17 am (UTC)(link)
On the surface of things, my team and I may have threatened to start a nuclear war and bring about an age of constant warfare.

that icon is perfect

[identity profile] newhero.livejournal.com 2010-12-07 01:21 am (UTC)(link)
... Why, though?

The context it is from makes it even better

[identity profile] uses-metaphors.livejournal.com 2010-12-07 01:32 am (UTC)(link)
Our government experimented on the soldiers working for us, creating a Genome Army. They became genetically better soldiers, but at a heavy cost.

Our soldiers were sick, dying from the genes injected into them. We petitioned our government to give us...[How does one explain asking for a corpse?]...Something they had that we could use to cure the disease. They refused.

Our people were going to rot from the inside out because those in charge did not want to admit their human science project had failed. Our soldiers who had fought for them were to be swept under the rug and sentenced to a slow death because of politics.

So we fought back.

what's the context?

[identity profile] newhero.livejournal.com 2010-12-07 01:41 am (UTC)(link)
[this is... not processing in Sora's Disney brain at all.]

I... that's awful... I don't understand why the government wouldn't help, if people were getting that sick.

Parking his tank in a handicapped parking space

[identity profile] uses-metaphors.livejournal.com 2010-12-07 01:56 am (UTC)(link)
[Comic (http://www.gigaville.com/comic.php?id=178b) link~]

[Indeed, like mayonnaise and blueberry syrup, Disney and Kojima's incredibly twisted and retconned plots do not mix well.]

What they did to our soldiers was against their own laws. Those in power may have lost their positions if such actions were discovered.

As well as the fact that they were in the process of creating a bipedal tank capable of launching untraceable nuclear missiles from and to anywhere in the world. That discovery would agitate the average citizen and possibly cause worldwide panic.

ahaha I love it

[identity profile] newhero.livejournal.com 2010-12-07 02:15 am (UTC)(link)
[the more convoluted the better amirite--]

Well, I-- did-- were you able to help the people who were sick eventually?

That's just how he rolls

[identity profile] uses-metaphors.livejournal.com 2010-12-07 02:47 am (UTC)(link)
[Don't forget the impossible genetics and ludicrous reason for Liquid's blond hair!]

[He is quiet a moment, looking thoughtfully out at the forest.]

I do not know...Our leader's brother was sent in to take us down and from what I have heard, he was successful. FOXHOUND died that day, but whether or not our troops were healed, I do not know.

I doubt very much that they were.

[identity profile] newhero.livejournal.com 2010-12-07 03:04 am (UTC)(link)
[but it's such beautiful hair.]

... I'm sorry. Someone has to be able to save them eventually... right?

[identity profile] uses-metaphors.livejournal.com 2010-12-07 03:44 am (UTC)(link)
[But "Bleached blond by the sun in Iraq"? Basic biology doesn't work that way, Mr. Shinkawa.]

Perhaps. If we caused enough trouble, people will have looked into the Uprising. Reporters, conspiracy theorists; people like that. They may be able to have exposed the truth.

There is a Dr. Hal Emmerich from beyond my time here. I will ask him when I can.

[identity profile] newhero.livejournal.com 2010-12-07 04:11 am (UTC)(link)
[... what]

Oh! I know Hal. He's gonna help me find the heart of Johto.

[identity profile] uses-metaphors.livejournal.com 2010-12-07 04:28 am (UTC)(link)
[That's the art director's reason, honest-to-god.]

The heart of Johto? What would that be?

[identity profile] newhero.livejournal.com 2010-12-07 04:52 am (UTC)(link)
[that's... um. special!]

Well, every world has a heart! It's what makes Johto what it is-- I was hoping to find it so we'd be able to protect it if anything happened.

[identity profile] uses-metaphors.livejournal.com 2010-12-07 05:06 am (UTC)(link)
["Special" as in "Unique (http://files.sharenator.com/unique_DeMotivational_Posters-s500x375-20165-580.jpg)".]

You seem to mean a literal heart, rather than a figurative, spiritual one. What do you think may threaten it?

[identity profile] newhero.livejournal.com 2010-12-07 05:29 am (UTC)(link)
[Liquid does indeed have unique hair!]

Darkness. If a world's heart is lost to darkness, the world is destroyed.

[identity profile] uses-metaphors.livejournal.com 2010-12-07 06:33 am (UTC)(link)
[With floaty TTS graphics!]

This darkness consumes it?

[identity profile] newhero.livejournal.com 2010-12-07 06:46 am (UTC)(link)
Something like that, yeah. It does the same to people's hearts.

[identity profile] uses-metaphors.livejournal.com 2010-12-07 12:32 pm (UTC)(link)
You must be a skilled warrior to face such an enemy.

[identity profile] newhero.livejournal.com 2010-12-07 06:38 pm (UTC)(link)
[Raven knows pretty much exactly the right thing to say-- oh, Sora's pride!]

Well... I dunno about that! I kind of fell into it accidentally.

[identity profile] uses-metaphors.livejournal.com 2010-12-07 06:46 pm (UTC)(link)
[It comes with the territory.]

Most people do. Still, you seem to be doing well.

The fall may not have been as accidental as you presume.

[identity profile] newhero.livejournal.com 2010-12-07 09:35 pm (UTC)(link)
You think it was fate, then?

[funny, he always thought the Keyblade was Riku's fate.]

[identity profile] uses-metaphors.livejournal.com 2010-12-07 10:36 pm (UTC)(link)
I think we each have a path to follow that will lead us to our full potential. Whether that path is found, let alone followed, is up to the one who walks it.

Fate is what you make of it. It is as fluid as the sea.

[identity profile] newhero.livejournal.com 2010-12-07 11:44 pm (UTC)(link)
... I like the sound of that. Thank you.
