[When the video feed first clicks on, there isn't much in the way of visuals except blackness, interspersed with the occasional flash of dull light. The sounds are much more fascinating than the sights, as it were: something is snuffling at the pokégear, and after a moment there's a series of sharp thunks, as if someone were rapping against the microphone. Something is trying to eat it.]
-- Hey! Knock it off! Look, there's food in the bag if you're hungry..
[The feed swings around wildly as Sora snatches away and tries to wipe the pokégear off on his jumpsuit, then stops abruptly as he turns it over in his hand and stares straight into the camera, his expression bewildered. This thing looks more high-tech than the lifts in Hollow Bastion.]
Okay, I'm.. not really sure what I was expecting, but the everlasting Darkness is weird.

That's probably okay for now. At least until we figure out what he likes to eat, right?

With barely any hesitation, (no matter WHAT he meant to offer it for,) she reaches out to shake it, oddly businesslike for a ten year old. Guess who spent the last year with a lawyer.
As for his words, she glances to Fanny, who's caaaasually reaching his trunk up and into the bag of whatever it is that the much larger (and slightly scarier) pokemon is eating. And then he's caaaasually sliding it out to stuff some in his face. He thinks he's so sly, yes he does.]
...Am I supposed to teach him manners, or is this okay? [She assumes he knows more about this place than she does, since he's ~older~.]

You've got a great handshake! And don't worry about him. There's plenty for everybody.
[that, and Sora would personally consider punishing Fanny equivalent to kicking kittens or punching puppies. he draws his hand back once the handshake has slowed, though he remains crouched on one knee, closer to Pearl's level.]
So what's your name? Mine's Sora.

I'm sorry, Pearl, I don't know where Mystic Maya is. I'm lost myself.
... You know what, though? We could look for our friends together.

Fanny extricates himself from the foodstuffs long enough to listen to the answer--you can tell because now his upraised trunk is pointed curiously at Sora.]

[bends down to pat Fanny again; he really can't help himself. the Girafarig, meanwhile, has devoured all the food and probably a quarter of a shirt, so he trots over to inspect Pearl curiously, with much snuffling of the hair and face.]
... Puddles, be careful.

Pearl watches this, giggles a 'heehee', and blows a raspberry at Puddles too. All in good fun, of course. The creature's a little less scary when you've got a basketball-sized elephant honking at it.]

I was! We used magic to turn me into one, so I could go somewhere that was completely underwater without drowning. There were lots of nice merpeople there.

[laughs a little and smooths a hand through his hair, remembering King Triton- okay, maybe he wasn't exactly the nicest merman at first. technicalities.]
[1/2]
You met the Little Mermaid!? [She's never seen the Disney rendition, but it was among the fairytales she loved in Kurain.]

[holds his hands up, trying to show that he's harmless.]

The Little Mermaid is just a fairy tale...
Are you telling me fairy tales are true?

[Sora sits down on the ground, stretching out his legs.]
I actually.. kinda felt the same way for a while. I thought that other worlds were just a kind of fairy tale, and if they did exist, they were something I'd probably never get to see. But you know? Lots of things that don't seem real actually are; you just have to go out there and find them.

[Sora pushes himself to his feet, batting away any dirt and dust that may have accumulated on his jumpsuit- Puddles very thoughtfully aids in the grooming by chewing on his shirt, to which Sora bats at in response.]
Is there anything else you wanted to do here, Pearl? Should we get going?
oops, didn't see this--was doing Pearly's CR chart~
Huh? [As she grabs her pack, she spots a certain device. Slowly, she picks it up, looks it over, and heads back to Sora.]
I found this! I think it's a cell phone. [It... doesn't really look like Mr. Nick's cell phone did, but hey, they're not all the same, are they?]
no worries!
Look, I've got one, too.
[he bends down slightly to show her, the gear sitting on his outstretched palm. it looks slightly chewed on. Puddles lets out a quiet "'fig," a few feet away, feigning innocence.]
:3
Mine looks newer. Do you want to trade? I'm used to getting stuff after it's been used.
Unless...
Unless they aren't really ours, after all! Maybe someone lost them.
no subject
[grins sheepishly.]
We should hang onto them for a while, at least until we find out if they belong to someone. Maybe they'll help us find Mystic Maya!
no subject
But if it'll help find Mystic Maya and Mr. Nick... And your friends, too! Then we should keep them. [Decisively, she takes it back from Fanny to... idek, prevent further trunking?]
