Re: 005; text

[even though Sora always has, and always will believe his mantra that there is no such thing as never seeing a friend again-- enough so that it's a sentiment he's willing to share with the rest of the network-- some days and some unexpected goodbyes are just plain harder than others.]

[it's part of the reason why it's well into the afternoon and he's still in his pajamas, and on and off beneath the covers and staring off some distance, lost in thought. Sora had managed to keep to himself for most of last week, and has made a point not to not bring up any behavior he might have witnessed with Riku, but... now that it's all worn off, he just feels miserable. too many people to miss. thinking about how Kairi isn't here is an intrusive thought he can't seem to really shake, either.]

[still, unkempt as Sora is today, he still manages to arrive at one conclusion that... takes the edge off, at least: it's all right to be sad. it's all right to hurt, especially when you lose someone that means the worlds to you, even if it's been a while... but now's a good reminder as any that there are still people here that he loves, and needs to stay with. meeting the rest again will happen when the time is right. right?]

[to that end, everyone Sora has ever spoken with, even if it was just once or twice, and... well, even if they didn't speak on very pleasant terms, might find a text message popping onto their 'gears:]

Are you still here?

Hi.

[bonus private text to Heather Mason]

Heather? We need to talk.

What about it?

It's something that usually doesn't come until later really. After you've dated for a bit with a girl you like.

[The threat of Leon weighs heavy on his mind]

It's something a kid like you doesn't really need to worry about.

Uh...well.

Sometimes I do. Usually dinner or something.

Maybe a movie, or go out dancing at a club somewhere.

It's a good way to get to know each other.

[It's probably a good thing that this is in text otherwise Barney could probably be read like a book. He's good at lying, but usually when he's had a bit more time to prepare a lie.]
usedsuitup: (Says it all really)

Yup, both tried and true methods.

[He thinks, briefly, about mentioning how dinner should be on the third date in his mind but that would imply something that he probably shouldn't admit to.]

Just remember that if you're going to do that, to make a good impression you should be the one paying.

Let's see, we got suits, dinner and a show, paying.

How are you with the oneliners? Chicks dig a good oneliner. It's a staple of flirting.

Something like that, yeah. Or an ice breaker. Something that starts the conversation or keeps it going. You can't really let things drift into an awkward silence because there's an 83% chance you won't recover from it.

When you're dealing with women, there is always room for error. You have to be constantly vigilant.

As for telling the difference? If it makes you groan or is a really bad pun, don't use it. Make it snappy, quick, like you just made it up on the spot.

Oh don't say that. Any guy can get a date. Oneliners are only part of the process, and really, once you get into the conversation you're set. It comes naturally.

I can give you a good ice breaker though.

[Though he has to find one that is appropriate for a fifteen year old. "Daddy's home" probably isn't going to work in this situation.]

Okay. Here it is:

How much does a penguin weigh?

[This should be innocent enough.]

Enough to break the ice.

[ba-dum chh!]

Then you wait a minute. And then introduce yourself. It's a classic.
