[if there's one thing Sora here is really good at, it's comfort-- whether it be an enthusiastic pep talk, or telling a silly joke or making a silly face to get a laugh out of whoever needs it, Sora can and does deliver! he's usually pretty successful at getting a smile, at least, though he's better at comforting when he has an experience of his own that he can relate to whatever's happening with a friend.]

[and... he's been trying his best with his friends this week. today, however, Sora will be marching into completely uncharted territory experience-wise when he turns on the feed-- it's so unfamiliar, in fact, that he doesn't even recognize it.]

... There's something wrong with Puddles.

[at least, he wouldn't be able to recognize it on a Pokémon. the feed turns to show the edge of Cherrygrove and Route 30, where the aforementioned Girafarig is standing. just standing there. and staring off down Route 30 longingly. maybe he missed a patch of grass on the way down here?]

I tried taking him to the Pokécenter, and they looked at him... Then Nurse Joy just kinda laughed and told me he's fine. But he's not! Ever since we got here, he's just been standing right there in the same spot like a zombie. Puddles! C'mere!

[Puddles bleats in acknowledgment, but does not move, nor does he refrain from staring off down Route 30 like there's a special Girafarigs-only treasure down that road or something. Sora sighs.]

I don't get it.

[Puddles lets go of the 'gear and kind of bobs his head at Rise happily. well, less of a long-distance relationship, and more of Puddles once admired her from afar. pig-tailed friend of Trainer, how do I girls?]

[ oh god this is new territory. B-but she'll do her best. ]

Sora, did he start acting weird while you were on the network with anybody?

[Sora pauses and scratches his chin, thinking hard about this.]

I don't really remember very many times Puddles was watching... We watched a bunch of gym battles together, though! I think the last one we saw was the Goldenr--

... ... ... ...

[no way.]

Puddles... are you... in love with Whitney's Girafarig?

[that happy bleat in response says it all.]

He... definitely doesn't think small.

... Really, Puddles?

[really really, Trainer. Sora looks down at the 'gear and Rise with a thousand-times amplified "OH GOD WHAT DO I DO" expression.]

O-okay, it's not like it's impossible...

How would it work? Do I need to talk to a breeder first or something?

[love is confusing enough as it is; Pokémon love is almost an alien concept.]

... Am I still allowed to battle Whitney?

I'd say you're fine. Besides, then he's got a chance to actually meet her Girafarig face to face. We can go from there.

Maybe... And we can make sure Puddles is looking his best when we go, too! Whatcha think, Puddles-- whoa!

[Puddles must think positively on the idea, because he's grabbed Sora by the shirt collar and is trying to drag him down Route 30. hurry, to Goldenrod!]

-- Wait a minute, Puddles! You've got to work out a strategy first!

[Puddles stops mid-gallop and lets go of Sora's shirt, leaving him to flail wildly and topple to the ground with a FWUMP--]

Ow!

[--the 'gear flew out of his hand somewhere on the way down, so now Rise has a Girafarig peering down curiously at her. strategy? what kind of strategy?]

[ she's a little concerned about Sora there. ]

You've got to present yourself as someone she'd want to get to know better. That means not dragging your trainer around. And you need time to build yourself up.

[no worries, Sora bounces right back. he's like a bouncy ball.]

Yeah, Puddles! If we take some time to let you get really strong and confident, I bet that Girafarig will fall head over... hoof... for you!

Right! What he said.

And then maybe we can find someone to teach you how to court a girl Girafarig! It can't be that difficult, right?

Love's love, at the heart of it.

[he pats Puddles on the head affectionately. looks like his pokémon will be getting girlfriends before he does!]

[ not if Rise's got a say in it, little bro. ]

I've just never tried it for a Pokémon, though. It can't be too hard.

[ oh, you know she is. Gotta have a hand in bro's love life, because leaving that to Ven would just end horribly. ]

Sure! We can work together when you get back to Violet, but for now... hmm. [ she's entering Thinking Mode. You know, the one Naoto wishes Rise would use when it came to midterms. ]

[either that or Ven would choose to enlist the aid of Terra. for now, both Sora and Puddles are watching Rise with wide eyes, like they're waiting for her to tell them if Santa Claus is real.]

[ because Terra is so skilled with dem wimmenz. Rise glances up to two pairs of huge eyes, blinking after a loooong moment. And then laughing. ]

Okay, here's what we'll do. I'll ask around about Whitney's Girafarig, see what I can learn. In the meantime, get him to spend less time munching and more time training. He's going to want to come off as strong.
